How I Replaced 6 Employees with AI Automations

The Numbers

Before: 6 part-time contractors at $500/month each = $3,000/month After: 6 AI employees at $55/month total = $55/month Monthly savings: $2,945

Here's exactly what happened.

The 6 Roles That Got Automated

1. Content Writer → Content Machine AI

2. Social Media Manager → Content Scheduler

3. Customer Support Rep → Support Agent AI

4. Lead Qualifier → Sales Bot AI

5. Analytics Person → Data Analyst AI

6. SEO Specialist → SEO Engine AI

The Tools

  • Claude API (Anthropic): $30-50/month — powers all 6 AI employees
  • n8n (self-hosted on Railway): $5/month — orchestrates all workflows
  • Supabase: $0 (free tier) — database, auth, storage
  • Telegram Bot: $0 — notifications and approvals

What I Still Do Myself

  • Review AI-generated content (10 min/day)
  • Handle escalated support tickets (30 min/day)
  • Close high-value sales calls (2-3/week)
  • Strategic decisions (pricing, features, partnerships)
  • Product development

Total daily time: ~2 hours. The rest is automated.

Lessons Learned

  1. Start with the easiest win. Daily reporting was automated in 1 hour and saved 5 hours/week immediately.
  2. Don't automate judgment calls. AI qualifies leads; you close deals. AI drafts responses; you approve sensitive ones.
  3. Monitor quality weekly. AI content can drift. Review outputs every Friday to recalibrate prompts.
  4. Stack incrementally. I automated one role per week over 6 weeks. Don't try to do everything at once.
